W. Briggs & Co

birmingham

W. Briggs & Co. was a silversmithing company based in Sheffield, England, known for producing high-quality silver-plated items such as punch bowls and knife sets. Established in the late 19th century, the company became a private limited entity in 1900. William Briggs, the original owner, retired in 1911, passing management on to his son, William Henry Briggs. In 1922, the company was re-registered as a limited company. However, by 1923, the business was sold to Samuel Viner of Crusade Cutlery. W. Briggs & Co.'s work, including antique silver-plated punch bowls and knife sets, remains sought after by collectors, with many items still bearing the Crown and Rose marks of the Sheffield Assay Office.
