From Aalborg, Denmark. Arrived at the Cape on 27 October 1757. He was married four times: to Engela van den Burg on 8 May 1763, to Maria Elizabeth Erasmus on 7 April 1765, to Elizabeth Catharina de Bruyn on 18 April 1784 and to Anna Catharina Volschenk on 13 July 1788. He had ten children, all by Maria Elizabeth Erasmus. Died on 18 March 1806. 1800: Boerepleyn 4 (-). The name also appears as Smidt and Smit.
