Arthur & Bond

Yokohama

Active: 1889-1923

Arthur & Bond was a British-owned retail and export firm based in Yokohama, Japan, operating circa 1889–1923 during the late Meiji and early Taishō periods. The company specialised in high-quality Japanese decorative arts for Western clients, commissioning finely crafted goods such as silverware, lacquerware, ceramics, and enamel objects from local artisans. Their products were tailored to Western tastes while retaining traditional Japanese craftsmanship, and are now recognised as important examples of Meiji-era export art, typically dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
