Marlene De Beer

South Africa 

Marlene de Beer is a contemporary jeweller and former senior lecturer at Durban University of Technology. She earned a PhD in Visual Arts from Stellenbosch University in 2017 and won the Premier Award at the South African Jewellery Awards in 2019. Marlene has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions. Her work explores the expressive qualities of non-precious materials such as porcelain, glass (including vitreous enamel), and sisal, creating work that responds phenomenologically to her experiences.
