Anika Lötter is a South African artist and jewellery designer whose practice explores the relationship between nature, culture and place through material experimentation. Working from an old fossil museum converted into a studio on a working sheep farm between Graaff-Reinet and Nieu-Bethesda, she draws closely on the landscape and rhythms of the Karoo. Her work investigates regenerative and sustainable approaches to design, with jewellery conceived as a contemporary artefact that carries traces of its environment, materials and lived experience. Lötter completed a Master’s in Visual Arts at Stellenbosch University in 2024, where her research, Using Regenerative Design Theory as a Guideline for Creating Holistic Art Jewellery Based on the Graaff-Reinet District, was awarded Cum Laude. Through intimate material exploration and a collaborative approach to the landscape, she creates functional works that reflect an evolving vision for a more sustainable and harmonious relationship between people, materials and place.
