Giancarlo Piretti

Italy 1940-2026 

Born in Bologna in 1940, Piretti studied at the Istituto Statale d'Arte in the same city before joining Anonima Castelli as a designer. One of his most famous works is the Plia chair, presented in 1969. In 1988, at the NeoCon in Chicago, he presented the Piretti Collection: a series of over 50 chairs and seats characterized by a patented mechanism on the backrest, which allows the chairs to be adjusted according to the user's weight.
