John, Henry & Charles Lias


The Lias family of London silversmiths was established by John Lias, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. John’s 1st mark was entered in 1791 and he began his business as a bucklemaker. He registered another 10 subsequent marks alone until 1818 when his elder son Henry joined the family business. John’s younger son Charles entered the partnership in 1823.

Henry John Lias, John’s elder son was apprenticed to Isaac Boorman, free 1816. 1st mark entered in partnership with his father 1818.

Charles Lias, John’s presumed younger son, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. 1st mark entered as plateworker as junior partner to John and Henry Lias.

In 1879 Henry’s son Henry Lias II formed a business with James Wakely which by 1884 had become James Wakely and Frank Wheeler,and subsequently
