Francois Durand

France François DURAND, goldsmith of the Duke of ORLÉANS, was a student of ODIOT and head of FAUCONNIER's workshop. He participated extensively in the Exhibitions of Industrial Products at the beginning of the 19th century, but also at the Universal Exhibitions in London (Crystal Palace, 1851) and Paris (1855). He created the 1841 Prize Cup for the Goodwood races (Louvre Museum, Paris). It was offered by Ferdinand-Philippe, Duke of ORLÉANS and eldest son of King LOUIS-PHILIPPE, a great horse lover and enlightened patron, to the winner of the Goodwood horse races (United Kingdom) in 1841. This cup, in neo-style -Renaissance, will be ordered by the prince from the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Jules KLAGMANN and created by DURAND. It is currently kept at the Louvre Museum.
