Jaeger-LeCoultre

Le Sentier, Switzerland

Jaeger-LeCoultre was founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland. A brilliant inventor and watchmaker, he created the world’s most precise measuring instrument of the time, the Millionomètre (1844), and developed keyless winding mechanisms that transformed watchmaking. By the late 19th century, LeCoultre’s workshop had become one of the most advanced manufactures in Switzerland, supplying high-quality movements to leading watch houses.

In the early 20th century, Antoine’s grandson Jacques-David LeCoultre partnered with French watchmaker Edmond Jaeger, whose ultra-thin movements led to iconic timepieces such as the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duoplan and, later, the Reverso (1931), a rectangular watch with a swiveling case designed for polo players. The company became officially known as Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1937.

Throughout its history, the brand has produced more than 1,200 calibers, including complications such as perpetual calendars, minute repeaters, and tourbillons. It is also famed for the Atmos clock (1928), which runs on air pressure and temperature changes. Today, Jaeger-LeCoultre is regarded as one of the few true “manufactures” in Swiss horology, combining design, innovation, and in-house expertise in every watch it creates.
