Henry Dunay

New York

Born in 1935, Henry Dunay was an award winning jewellery designer in New York. Starting out as a mere errand-runner for a retailer jeweller, he worked his way up to becoming a master model-maker and gemstone setter. At 21 he opened his first company taking on work for jewellers such as Harry Winston. After many years of taking on smaller projects he won the De Beer's Diamond International Award which was a turning point in his career. He become well know for his bold, unique sculptural designs that focused on becoming an extension of the wearer. His most well know collection is the 'Sabi' collection, inspired by the wabi-sabi aesthetic, using a technique where he meticulously carved a series of soft brushed lines into the metal giving it a tactile matte finish.

His works have been worn by the likes of Hillary Clinton, Drew Barrymore and Elizabeth Taylor. Henry Dunay was a craftsmanship and passionate jeweller who passed away 10 November 2023.
