Gorham Manufacturing Company

Birmingham, England & Rhode Island, USA

Gorham Silver, founded in 1831 by Jabez Gorham and Henry L. Webster in Providence, Rhode Island, initially focused on crafting spoons and small silver items. After Jabez's retirement in 1847, his son, John Gorham, expanded the company, introducing mechanized production and traveling to Europe to learn from skilled craftsmen. In 1865, the company became the Gorham Manufacturing Company. Known for its innovation and design, Gorham produced iconic silverware, including the famous Chantilly pattern. The company grew through acquisitions, including Kerr & Co. in 1906 and Whiting Manufacturing Company in 1924. In the 20th century, it underwent several ownership changes, including a purchase by Textron in 1967 and later by Dansk and Brown-Forman. Today, Gorham operates under the Lenox Corporation following its acquisition in 2005.
