Historical wines from Bouchard Pere et Fils

19 May 2026

Strauss & Co presents a unique opportunity to acquire wines that define Burgundy’s legacy, aged bottles direct from the ancient 15 Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. These historic bottles, among the last remaining examples from the 20th and early 21st centuries, represent some of the Domaine’s most important cuvées. Fine vintages across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune back to 1972 have been selected, checked and captured on the Bouchard database, with a dedicated neck proof tag confirming their recent release from the Bouchard cellars. Bottles from the 2009 vintage and older were also waxed in anticipation of their recent release and will be offered in a dedicated Strauss & Co online auction closing on 25 May 2026.

For collectors, this is more than an opportunity to acquire exceptional wines; it is a rare chance to engage with the history and enduring legacy of Burgundy itself. All with confidence that the bottle will be in perfect condition.

Derek Kilpin’s top Picks

Derek Kilpin, Managing Director and co-owner of Great Domaines, is widely regarded as one of South Africa’s leading Burgundy specialists. Below are his top wine selections that we recommend considering when placing your bids.

LOT 15 | Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune Clos de la Mousse 2017

The top vineyards of Beaune currently represent terrific value and in a vintage like 2017, these are wines that can start to be enjoyed now. Beautifully supple and open and will still evolve and develop further if one chooses to cellar for longer. A very canny purchase!

LOT 23 | Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune Les Marconnets 2007

This is a fantastic offering, not only because its from one of the most enjoyable, approachable vintages in Burgundy, but also because its from the Marconnets vineyard. A vineyard that has more clay than limestone giving it a sturdiness but a lift and elegance that is the hallmarks of the best 2007s

LOT 44 | Bouchard Père et Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1999

Surely one of the best value and most underrated premier crus in Burgundy, Savigny-les-Beaune “Les Lavieres”. We have been fortunate to drink wines back to the 1950s from this vineyard out the Bouchard cellars, and its never disappointed. 1999 is one of the great Burgundy vintages so this cuvee, in magnum, from this vintage should be brilliant.

LOT 52| Bouchard Père et Fils Le Corton 2009

The Corton Grand cru vineyard, when in the right hands and under the right vintage conditions, has the potential to be one of the smartest Grand Cru red purchases in Burgundy. Bouchard’s Corton seems to fly somewhat under the radar yet over the years when put alongside other examples of Corton, it has always shone. 2009 was a stand-out vintage in Burgundy and this grand cru now nearing 20 years of age is entering a drinking sweet spot and will stay there and evolve for a decade and more.

LOT 71 | Bouchard Père et Fils Chambolle-Musigny 1975

This lot creates real excitement! Wines of this perfect provenance and quality are a true rarity in today’s world of Burgundy collecting. We have been fortunate to drink many vintage bottles such as this from the Bouchard cellars over the years and they have never failed to disappoint in

terms of their quality and ability to transport one back in time. For those wanting to experience the emotional nuances of what fine Burgundy evolves into after 50 years, this is your lot!

These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit.

Together, these great bottles form a narrative of Burgundy’s evolution through the 19th and 20th centuries. For collectors, this auction represents more than a moment of acquisition – it is an opportunity to be part of the region’s history and future.
