Bouchard Père et Fils

Beaune Clos de la Mousse 2017

A unique opportunity to acquire wines that define Burgundy’s legacy
About the Session

These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit. These historic bottles, among the last remaining examples from the 20th and early 21st centuries, represent some of the Domaine’s most important cuvées. Fine vintages across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune back to 1972 have been selected, checked and captured on the Bouchard database, with a dedicated neck proof tag confirming their recent release from the Bouchard cellars. Bottles from the 2009 vintage and older were also waxed in anticipation of their recent release.

About this Item

Beaune Clos de la Mousse 2017
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
The 2017 Côte de Beaune harvest was defined by dramatically reduced yields following spring frosts, yet the fine weather that followed delivered wines of exceptional concentration, fine structure and the composed elegance that makes the finest Beaune Premier Cru monopoles so rewarding in the cellar over the medium term. Bouchard Père & Fils' 2017 Beaune Clos de la Mousse earned 17 points from Richard Hemming MW at JancisRobinson.com. los de la Mousse is a monopole of Bouchard Père & Fils within the appellation of Beaune, its earliest recorded trace dating to 1220 when it was bequeathed to the church of Notre-Dame de Beaune, with the entire 3.36 hectares consolidated by the Domaine in 1872. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 30 to 40% new barrels.

Critics Ratings

"The deep clay soils inside this four-walled clos mean that this 3.36ha terroir never suffers in hot years like 2017, retaining sufficient moisture for the vines. This stylish, aromatic, violet-scented Pinot is wonderfully fresh and charming, with subtle whole-bunch characters and deftly applied 20% new wood. Drinking Window: 2022 - 2027." - Tim Atkin MW, 93/100 (Nov 2018)

"The 2017 Beaune Clos de la Mousse 1er Cru comes from a 3.36-hectare terraced monopole, located on dense red clay, that suffers little dryness and tends to retard maturation of the fruit. This is showing just a little reduction on the nose, yet there is plenty of juicy red berry fruit laced with brown spices here that feels well defined. The poised, focused palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a caressing, almost Vosne-like finish that is utterly seductive. This comes recommended. Drinking Window: 2020 - 2034." - Neal Martin, 90 - 92/100 (Jan 2019)

“Fragrant cherry and redcurrant fruit – easy and generous and rich, with well-managed oak smokiness on the palate and length. Very nicely done.” - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2019)
