The Luxury Edit: Designer Handbags and Accessories

Strauss & Co presents “The Luxury Edit: Designer Handbags and Accessories“, the first of its kind with the company. The timed online auction (22 September – 6th October 2025) brings together luxury goods from renowned international design houses; Bottega Veneta, Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, alongside the South African design house, Lorenzi, the luxury leather goods brand founded in 1962 when the Caon Family immigrated from Italy to South Africa.

“The sale celebrates the pursuit of excellence and craftsmanship through luxury goods that can be considered wearable art, reimagined for the 21st-century collector who wants beauty to accompany them wherever they go,” says Kayleen Wrigley, head of sale. “These pieces, including bags, belts, and scarves, showcase the highest calibre of design and manufacturing.”

We are delighted to include the Property of a Lady featuring a selection of special items; a Monogram Louis Vuitton Sac Chien (Dog Bag) (estimate R20 000 – R30 000), which features a sleek design styled in Monogram coated canvas with natural cowhide trim. Designed for comfort with a soft interior and secure ventilation net with roll-down cover, this bag offers a stylish, practical way to travel with your furry friend. Also included are a GG Supreme Blooms Shawl (estimate R4 000 – R6 000) and a Coral and Purple Pure Silk Scarf with Tropical Motifs (estimate R1 000 – R1 500) by ESCADA, the luxury German heritage brand, known for elegance and unbeatable glamour, founded by Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley in 1978 in Munich. 

The elegance of Chanel shines through a Limited Edition Black Chanel Paris Monaco Mini Flap Bag ( estimate R105 800). Crafted from soft, supple black leather, the exquisite bag features a sleek quilted pattern, signature CC logo and stunning antique gold chain strap. Its compact size makes it perfect for carrying essentials.

A special inclusion is the local collaboration Guillotine x L’MAD Collection x Marlene Steyn silk scarf (estimate R800 – R1 200) featuring illustrations by South African artist Marlene Steyn, known for her eerie imagery in dream-like landscapes.

“The Luxury Edit: Designer Handbags and Accessories” includes a range of pieces by Louis Vuitton, known for its wide range of high-end products, including ready-to-wear fashion, shoes, jewellery, and perfumes, all recognised for their high quality and prestige. Born in 1821 in the mountain town of Anchay, in eastern France, Louis Vuitton was a prodigy who set foot to find his fortune in Paris, becoming an apprentice to a box manufacturer where he learnt his craft. In his early 30s, he designed a flat-topped trunk that could be stacked, a radical innovation at the time, leaving a lasting legacy of the highest calibre of well-crafted luxury items. The sale includes a Louis Vuitton Monogram Hudson GM Shoulder Bag (estimate R15 000 – R20 000); a Vintage Louis Vuitton Monogram Sirius 70 Travel Bag (estimate R32 800); a Louis Vuitton Monogram Petite Boite Chapeau with Gold Tone Hardware (estimate R46 800). This iconic hatbox is reimagined as a day-to-evening bag, small yet practical and undeniably glamorous. 

Also featured is a Limited Edition Iris Taurillon Kintsugi Capucines BB. First launched in 2013, the Capucines is named for the Parisian street where Louis Vuitton first opened shop in 1854. Fashioned from full-grain Taurillon leather, the now-classic Capucines BB handbag displays a host of House signatures: leather-wrapped LV Initials, jewel-like handle mounts inspired by historic trunks, and a distinctive flap with a Monogram Flower motif. This charming model can be carried by hand or worn cross-body on its detachable strap.

The house of Gucci is represented with a Vintage Gucci Sterling Silver and 18K Gold Minaudière Evening Clutch with Tiger’s Eye Clasp c. 1960s-1970s (estimate R20 000 – R30 000), showcasing Gucci’s spirit of innovation alongside a Gucci Straw Jacquard Azalea Calfskin GG Monogram Small Dionysus Shoulder Bag (estimate R62,800).
