Domenico Clerico
Barolo Ciabot Mentin 2008
Italy
About the SessionItaly dominates the auction, led by a considerable depth of Tuscan greats. Fontodi spans the full range of the estate from the benchmark Chianti Classico through multiple vintages of Flaccianello della Pieve, their iconic Sangiovese IGT, to the crown jewel Vigna del Sorbo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. The jewel in the crown of Tuscan reds, Brunello di Montalcino is well represented with offerings from Il Poggione, Casanova di Neri, Silvio Nardi, and the rare Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta. A group of curated Italian Collections rounds out the Italian session, offering mixed selections ideal for those seeking range across multiple producers in a single lot.

Critics Ratings
“Mid ruby with orange-tinged rim. Spicy and firmly in the dried-fruit spectrum but with depth. Quite muscular, clayey tannin. Multilayered finish, with the fruit coming out.....” - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Oct 2012)
“Starts out broad and soft, with cherry, plum, mint and licorice flavors, turning firm and dry on a base of muscular tannins. Tobacco and tea notes grace the finish.” - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Mar 2013)
“The 2008 Barolo Ciabot Mentin is a little more interesting than the Pajana, but not much. It shows good energy and length, but never seems to truly blossom in the way the best vintages typically do. Flowers, mint, licorice and red berries are woven into the long, saline finish. Today the Ciabot Mentin comes across as compact, austere and lacking fruit. It shows good up-front energy, but then tails off abruptly on the mid-palate.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 92/100 (Apr 2012)
