Fontodi spans the full range of the estate from the benchmark Chianti Classico through multiple vintages of Flaccianello della Pieve, their iconic Sangiovese IGT, to the crown jewel Vigna del Sorbo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. The jewel in the crown of Tuscan reds, Brunello di Montalcino is well represented with offerings from Il Poggione, Casanova di Neri, Silvio Nardi, and the rare Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta. About this Item

Barolo Margheria 2010
1 (1 x 1) 1500ml
Azelia is a long established family estate at Castiglione Falletto, farming prized Nebbiolo sites across the Barolo zone. Margheria is a single vineyard cru in Serralunga d'Alba, and here the wine follows a return to tradition, completing a natural secondary fermentation in large oak casks to protect Nebbiolo's delicate aromatics. The 2010, from a great classic Barolo vintage, is a wine of real dimension and depth, offering wild berry and blue flower lifted by liquorice, smoke and tar.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“A single-vineyard expression from Serralunga d'Alba, the 2010 Barolo Margheria is a wine of enormous dimension and depth. Malolactic fermentation is not started with increased temperatures. Instead, the wine is placed in large oak casks and secondary fermentation occurs in a fully natural manner when the conditions are right. This represents a return to local tradition, and this process helps to safeguard the authenticity of those delicate Nebbiolo aromas. You get wild berries and blue flower with licorice and smoke at the back.” - Monica Larner, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Jun 2018)

“Round in profile, with base notes of plum, leather and tar to balance the higher-toned flavors of cherry, flowers and white pepper. Firm and lean on the finish now, with a mouthwatering aftertaste that echoes fruit and spice details. Great length.” - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 95/100 (Dec 2014)
