About this Item
The 1972 Burgundy harvest presented considerable challenges of uneven ripening, yet wines from the finest Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits, when properly cellared and conserved with great care, have evolved into objects of enduring historic interest and genuine curiosity, their lean, austere character having softened over more than five decades into a complexity that speaks uniquely of age, terroir and remarkable provenance. Bouchard Père & Fils' 1972 Clos de la Roche, offered here in the rare magnum format, was Clos de la Roche is the largest and most powerful of Morey-Saint-Denis' four Grands Crus, its deep limestone and clay soils producing wines of remarkable structure, aromatic complexity and exceptional cellaring potential that have made it one of the great benchmarks of the Côte de Nuits, its vineyards traced to the Cistercian monks who recognised the exceptional quality of this terroir in the medieval era. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged in French oak.
