A unique opportunity to acquire wines that define Burgundy’s legacy

About this Item
The 2012 Côte de Beaune harvest produced wines of fine classical structure, honest aromatic definition and good ageing capacity, a vintage that demanded careful selection but rewarded rigorous producers with wines of genuine character, fine-grained tannin and the composed, classical Pinot Noir identity that the finest Volnay Premiers Crus consistently provide. Bouchard Père & Fils' 2012 Ancienne Cuvée Carnot earned 92 points from Neal Martin at Wine Advocate. Les Caillerets is Volnay's most revered Premier Cru vineyard and the Ancienne Cuvée Carnot is the exclusive bottling of Bouchard Père & Fils from the oldest vines within the climate, the 1775 acquisition of this parcel having marked the very inauguration of the Bouchard estate, making it arguably the most historically significant wine the house produces. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 40 to 50% new barrels.
Provenance
These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit.
Critics Ratings
“Exquisite fruit and spice aromas on the nose. On the palate, perfect harmony between structure and elegance: rich, complex and voluptuous. Very good ageing potential.” - Bouchard Père & Fils, producer tasting notes, 2012 vintage
“Maybe I underestimated the 2012 Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets Ancienne Cuvee Carnot from Bouchard Père & Fils? Certainly seems so, judging by this gorgeous example. Here, it has a conservative and tightly-controlled bouquet with a touch of soy mixed in with the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and bitter on the entry. There is plenty of sour cherry and juniper berry here, edgy and tensile, while the finish is focused and building on that tension to offer great drinkability.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Oct 2015)
