About this Item

A pair of blue and white porcelain bowls, Wanli, 1573-1619
each height: 5,5cm; diameter: 21cm

Notes

A pair of blue and white kraak porcelain bowls, each with a central medallion of birds among rockwork and foliage, symbols of harmony and longevity. The wells are divided into radiating panels containing floral sprays and auspicious objects. Barbed rims, bordered by peony and foliate scrolls, are characteristic of late Ming Jingdezhen export porcelain. Minor variations in tone and brushwork reflect the hand-painted nature of kraak ware.

Provenance

Private Collection.
