About this Item
A Chinese blue and white porcelain saucer dish, Kangxi period, 1662-1722
diameter: 21cm
Notes
Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a scene of two sages seated in a mountainous landscape, apparently engaged in a board game, with an attendant figure nearby. Such imagery is typical of Kangxi-period wares, reflecting literati ideals of leisure and intellectual cultivation. The square seal mark to the base is a decorative studio mark rather than a formal reign mark.
Provenance
Private Collection.
