About this Item
A Chinese blue and white 'Kraak' dish, Wanli period, 1573-1620
of shallow circular form, decorated in underglaze blue with a central scene of birds amongst flowering plants and rocks, the cavetto with panelled reserves enclosing floral and auspicious motifs, the exterior with stylised geometric decoration
height: 6cm; diameter: 32,5cm
Notes
The panelled design and bold decorative scheme are characteristic of Wanli period porcelain, where compositions were often divided into distinct reserves. The lively depiction of birds and flowers reflects themes of prosperity and harmony, common in late Ming blue and white wares.
