About this Item
A Chinese blue and white shaped dish, Kangxi period, 1662-1722
with hexagonal foliate rim, the centre painted in underglaze cobalt blue with island scene before a bridge, surrounded by water and a mountainscape, the border with alternating foliage and landscape scenes, the reverse painted with scrolling foliage
height: 2cm; diameter: 12cm
Notes
The landscape reflects the fluid and expressive style associated with the Kangxi period, while the lobed form and panelled border add a decorative structure typical of export wares. The combination of landscape and natural motifs conveys themes of harmony and retreat within nature.
