About this Item
A Japanese cloisonné enamel box, Meiji period, 1868-1912
rectangular, the hinged cover enamelled with a fiery dragon within a shaped panel, enclosed by brocaded, diaper, flowerheads and wave-shaped panels, with gilt-brass borders, enclosing two cranes enamelled in white within a landscape with a further three in flight above, the lower half similarly enamelled above a palework border, raised on four bracket feet, the base enamelled with a flowerhead enclosed by scrolling foliage and wave-shaped borders, gilded brass throughout, minor chips, 12,4cm wide
