About this Item

Vin de Constance 1997
2 (1 x 2) 500ml
Klein Constantia is the historic Constantia estate south of Cape Town, and Vin de Constance is its revival of the legendary eighteenth-century sweet Muscat de Frontignan once prized by Napoleon and the courts of Europe. Unfortified and naturally sweet, made from late-harvested, partly raisined Muscat and bottled in its distinctive flacon, it is South Africa's most celebrated dessert wine. The 1997 is a mature, early-era release. James Molesworth from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 92, and Pierre Rovani from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 93.

Critics Ratings

"The lovely apricot, crème brûlée and orange marmalade notes will reel you in, while the unctuous texture and long, riveting finish will keep you there. An outstanding dessert wine for cellaring. Late harvest Muscat de Frontignan." - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100

"The complex 1997 Vin de Constance sports a nose reminiscent of the one hundred and fifty-year old luxury bottling of Grand Marnier. Candied orange peel, cherries, and spices are intermingled with hints of honey in its gorgeously defined aromatics. Red currants, kumquats, nuts, minerals, and floral flavors can be discerned in its detailed character. This medium-bodied wine, produced entirely from Muscat, is lively, elegant, packed with nuanced flavors, and sports a long, supple, expressive finish." - Pierre Rovani, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Feb 2003)
