About this Item

Vin de Constance 2013
6 (1 x 6) 500ml
Klein Constantia is the historic Constantia estate south of Cape Town, and Vin de Constance is its revival of the legendary eighteenth-century sweet Muscat de Frontignan once prized by Napoleon and the courts of Europe. Unfortified and naturally sweet, made from late-harvested, partly raisined Muscat and bottled in its distinctive flacon, it is South Africa's most celebrated dessert wine. The 2013 is an outstanding, racy vintage. Neal Martin from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 96, James Molesworth from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 94, and Stephen Tanzer from Vinous gave it a rating of 94.

Critics Ratings

"The 2013 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine was matured in 500-liter barrels for around 36 months. It has a beautiful bouquet with honey, quince, pressed yellow flowers and Mirabelle. It has wonderful definition and purity. The palate is very well balanced with a mellifluous texture and beautifully judged acidity as it just sashays along. It fans out on the finish with honey, quince, a touch of rhubarb and ginger, extraordinarily persistent in the mouth. Matthew Day, current winemaker, opined that he thought the 2012 would be the best ever, but the freshness might see it overtaken. This is awesome." - Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Apr 2017)

"Ripe and unctuous, but steely too, with mirabelle plum, apricot, kumquat and quince flavors racing along, enlivened by green tea and ginger accents through the very lengthy finish. Muscat de Frontignan." - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Jul 2017)

"Bright light-medium gold. High-toned scents of orange marmalade, dried apricot, piercing herbs, spices, honey and marzipan. Viscous and thick, with just enough acidity to maintain its shape and energy. Supersweet dried apricot and honey flavors dominate. Finishes with a bittersweet citrus edge, a suggestion of golden raisin and palate-staining length. Wonderfully concentrated, silky wine with energy." - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 94/100 (Mar 2017)
