About this Item

Metis Sauvignon Blanc 2016
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Klein Constantia is the historic Constantia estate south of Cape Town, best known for reviving the legendary sweet wine Vin de Constance. Métis is its barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc, a collaboration with the Loire vigneron Pascal Jolivet, made naturally with minimal sulphur by winemaker Matt Day in a savoury, Sancerre-like style. 2016 was a warm, dry Cape vintage. Tim Atkin MW scored it 94 in his South Africa Special Report 2017, and Neal Martin from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 91.

Critics Ratings

"Inspired by the time Matt Day has spent with Pascal Jolivet in the Loire Valley, this is a lightly wooded, naturally fermented Sauvignon Blanc that's made with minimal sulphur dioxide. Savoury, wild and leesy, it has lovely freshness and complexity and a saline, Sancerre-like tang." - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 94/100 (Sep 2017)

"The 2016 Metis Sauvignon Blanc is a wild ferment with no settling or enzymes, a little SO2 added just after fermented. It has an attractive bouquet: gooseberry, Granny Smith, a suggestion of wild mint and fennel. The palate is well balanced with more weight and volume than the Sauvignon Blanc, notes of gooseberry, kiwi fruit and a touch of lemon zest, fanning out in satisfying fashion on the finish." - Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Apr 2017)
