About this Item
The 2006 Côte de Nuits harvest produced wines of classical character, fine structure and genuine longevity, a vintage rewarding patience and one increasingly recognised as among the decade's more composed and authentic efforts for Pinot Noir at the Grand Cru level. Chambertin is the most celebrated of Gevrey-Chambertin's nine Grands Crus, immortalised by Napoleon Bonaparte who demanded it above all other wines, its limestone and clay soils of exceptional depth producing wines of incomparable power, complexity and longevity on the finest east-facing slope of the village. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 40 to 50% new barrels.
Provenance
These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit.
Critics Ratings
“A domaine wine from the late-ripening upper reaches of the site, Bouchard's 2006 Chambertin was not destemmed at all. Ripe black fruits, peat, and rose petals strikingly scent this firmly tannic and impressively concentrated effort. Salty, meaty, tartly berry-fruited and almost palpably mineral, it finishes with impressive grip if not finesse.” - David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Dec 2009)
