Bouchard Père et Fils

Charmes-Chambertin 2002

A unique opportunity to acquire wines that define Burgundy’s legacy
About the Session

These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit. These historic bottles, among the last remaining examples from the 20th and early 21st centuries, represent some of the Domaine’s most important cuvées. Fine vintages across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune back to 1972 have been selected, checked and captured on the Bouchard database, with a dedicated neck proof tag confirming their recent release from the Bouchard cellars. Bottles from the 2009 vintage and older were also waxed in anticipation of their recent release.

About this Item

Charmes-Chambertin 2002
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
Approved by the technical team at Bouchard Père et Fils following inspection and tasting.
The 2002 Côte de Nuits harvest is one of the finest of the early 2000s, producing wines of exceptional balance, fine aromatic complexity and genuine longevity across the appellation's most celebrated Grands Crus in a year whose classical precision and depth are now consistently praised by collectors and critics alike. Bouchard Père & Fils' 2002 Charmes-Chambertin is among the most extensive of Gevrey-Chambertin's nine Grands Crus, its deep calcareous clay soils producing wines of notable aromatic richness and generous texture that complement the more austere structural power of its celebrated neighbour Chambertin, with a warmth and suppleness that has made it one of the most consistently acclaimed Grands Crus of the village. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 40 to 50% new barrels.

Critics Ratings

“Roses can be detected amongst the sweet red cherries in the aromatics of the medium-bodied 2002 Charmes-Chambertin. Spicy, sensual, and lush, this well-balanced wine coats the palate with both candied and fresh red fruits. Its expressive personality seamlessly lingers in its lengthy finish.” - Pierre Rovani, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Jun 2004)
