Clos Vougeot 1999

The 1999 Côte de Nuits harvest is widely regarded as one of the finest of its decade, producing wines of classical elegance, fine aromatic definition and genuine longevity across the appellation's most celebrated Grands Crus in a vintage whose depth and composure are now fully revealed after more than two decades of slow and steady evolution. Clos Vougeot is one of Burgundy's most historic Grands Crus, established by Cistercian monks in the 12th century and farmed by the same brotherhood for seven centuries until the Revolution, its soils varying from gravel and chalk at the summit producing a velvety, finessed character to richer marly clay at the base giving more structured and powerful wines of extraordinary depth. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 40 to 50% new barrels.
