Bouchard Père et Fils
Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1999
A unique opportunity to acquire wines that define Burgundy’s legacy
About the SessionThese wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit. These historic bottles, among the last remaining examples from the 20th and early 21st centuries, represent some of the Domaine’s most important cuvées. Fine vintages across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune back to 1972 have been selected, checked and captured on the Bouchard database, with a dedicated neck proof tag confirming their recent release from the Bouchard cellars. Bottles from the 2009 vintage and older were also waxed in anticipation of their recent release.
About this Item
The 1999 Côte de Nuits harvest is widely regarded as one of the finest of its decade, producing wines of classical elegance, fine aromatic definition and genuine longevity across the appellation's most celebrated Premiers Crus in a vintage whose depth and composure are now fully revealed. Bouchard Père & Fils' 1999 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Cailles is one of the most distinguished Premier Cru vineyards in the south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, classified as a tête de cuvée by Danguy and Aubertin as early as 1892 in their seminal work Les Grands Vins de Bourgogne, its oolitic limestone terroir producing wines of distinctive feminine elegance and notable depth from Bouchard Père & Fils' 1.08 hectares. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 40 to 50% new barrels.

Critics Ratings
“There's some real good blackberry fruit here, and though it's a bit light midpalate, the burly but ripe tannins and smoke and spice-filled finish make this a good candidate to round out into something very solid.” - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Feb 2002)
