About this Item

Clos Vougeot 2001
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
Approved by the technical team at Bouchard Père et Fils following inspection and tasting.

The 2001 Côte de Nuits harvest produced wines of genuine classical structure and fine aromatic complexity, a quietly impressive vintage that has rewarded those who held with bottles of considerable depth and the nuanced, evolved character of Burgundy entering its most rewarding mature drinking window. Bouchard Clos Vougeot is one of Burgundy's most historic Grands Crus, established by Cistercian monks in the 12th century and farmed by the same brotherhood for seven centuries until the Revolution, its soils varying from gravel and chalk at the summit producing a velvety character to richer marly clay at the base giving wines of greater structure and depth. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 40 to 50% new barrels.

Provenance

These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit.

Critics Ratings

“Complex bouquet of red and black berries with spicy and slightly oaky notes. Dazzling elegance on the palate, with a perfect blend of finesse and raciness. Very good ageing potential.” - Bouchard Père & Fils, producer tasting notes, 2001 vintage
