Bouchard Père et Fils

Echézeaux 2008

A unique opportunity to acquire wines that define Burgundy’s legacy
About the Session

These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit. These historic bottles, among the last remaining examples from the 20th and early 21st centuries, represent some of the Domaine’s most important cuvées. Fine vintages across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune back to 1972 have been selected, checked and captured on the Bouchard database, with a dedicated neck proof tag confirming their recent release from the Bouchard cellars. Bottles from the 2009 vintage and older were also waxed in anticipation of their recent release.

About this Item

Echézeaux 2008
1 (1 x 1) 750ml
Approved by the technical team at Bouchard Père et Fils following inspection and tasting.
The 2008 Côte de Nuits harvest rewarded precise viticulture and rigorous selection with wines of genuine finesse, cool-climate purity and remarkable structural integrity that continue to develop with considerable grace in the cellar. Bouchard Père & Fils' 2008 Échézeaux is a Grand Cru of the village of Flagey-Échézeaux, its well-situated plots on clayey and limestone subsoil sheltered from the wind at the base of the Combe d'Orveau valley on stony ground ideally suited to producing wines of aristocratic finesse and mineral intensity from 100% Pinot Noir. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 40 to 50% new barrels.

Critics Ratings

“Bouchard's 2008 Échézeaux – from the high-elevation, drought-prone En Orveaux section of that cru, ideally suited for withstanding the rigors of a dismal summer – mingles maraschino, vanilla, and chalk dust in the nose as well as on a saline, savory, saliva-inducing palate, and notes of white pepper add emphatic invigoration to a penetratingly bright finish. Whether or not further depth or low tones emerge here, we already have a handsome monument to the vintage.” - David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Jun 2010)

“Cherry, spicy, cedar, tobacco leaf, waxy, vanilla, smoky, compost aromas. Round, dry, supple but tight with good concentration and focussed acidity. Cherry, orange, riparian, tobacco, gamey, cedar, peppery, spicy, carrot top flavours. Very young with some tight tannins and a bit of barnyard to integrate. Needs 5–10 years.” - Stuart Tobe, Gismondi on Wine, 93/100 (Dec 2011)
