About this Item
The 2006 Côte de Beaune red harvest produced wines of classical structure and fine aromatic definition, a vintage increasingly recognised as one of the more elegantly composed efforts of the decade for the finest red Grands Crus of the hill of Corton. Bouchard Père & Fils' 2006 Le Corton, offered here in magnum, has earned 17.5 points from Jancis Robinson MW at JancisRobinson.com. Le Corton is the historic Grand Cru vineyard that gave the Corton appellation its very name, the only red Grand Cru on the entire Côte de Beaune, with Bouchard Père & Fils farming 3.20 hectares of limestone and clay soils at the summit of the hill since 1909 in a position that produces wines of mineral intensity and remarkable longevity. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 40 to 50% new barrels.
Provenance
These wines have been sourced directly from the ancient 15th Century cellars of Bouchard Père et Fils. They were imported into South Africa in March 2026 by Great Domaines via refrigerated container (reefer), ensuring optimal preservation throughout transit.
Critics Ratings
“Corton is the largest grand cru in Burgundy and its style can vary widely. Bouchard has gone for a relatively soft style, emphasizing fruits, raspberry, myrtle and black currants, topped with acidity. It is a light, delicious wine, but probably not for aging.” - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Jul 2010)
“Rather rich, flattering, layered nose. Lots of juicy, sweet fruit. As a Corton should taste! Serious stuff. Still quite tannic on the finish but with good, ripe fruit. Fine tannins and a nice satisfying bone-dry finish after notable ripeness.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Oct 2009)
