Beaune Les Marconnets 2017

The 2017 Côte de Beaune harvest was defined by dramatically reduced yields following spring frosts, yet the fine weather that followed delivered wines of exceptional concentration from the small quantities that achieved optimal ripeness, producing Premier Cru Beaune of genuine character and fine-grained structure from one of the appellation's most historic holdings. Bouchard Père & Fils' 2017 Beaune Les Marconnets is a fine and composed expression of this Premier Cru, the vintage's naturally reduced yields producing fruit of exceptional concentration from the estate's long-established 2.32-hectare holding at the northernmost point of the appellation, confirming the seriousness and longevity of which this vineyard is consistently capable. Les Marconnets is one of the oldest Premier Cru vineyards in Beaune, its name traced to the Germanic Marcomans who settled here in the 3rd century AD, with Bouchard Père & Fils having farmed 2.32 hectares at the northernmost point of the appellation since 1791, the layers of grey, marly chalk lending this distinguished cru its hallmark character, elegance and bouquet. The wine is produced from 100% Pinot Noir, aged 12 to 14 months in French oak with 30 to 40% new barrels.
