About this Item

Pessac-Léognan 2015
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
The 2015 Bordeaux vintage produced wines of excellent ripeness, generous fruit and considerable charm, delivering both red and white wines of real quality and accessibility across Pessac-Léognan. L’Esprit de Chevalier is the pair of second wines of Domaine de Chevalier, produced since 1986 from younger vines to offer more approachable drinking than the Grand Vin. The 2015 white earned 17/20 from Jancis Robinson MW, who found the Sémillon dominant character lovely, waxen and interesting with a dry, fresh precision distinct from the searing acidity of a young grand vin. The 2015 red earned 15.5/20 from Jancis Robinson MW, who found it sweet with black cherry fruit and marked acidity though a little simple on the finish. Domaine de Chevalier is one of Pessac-Léognan’s most distinguished Grand Cru Classé estates, its pine-encircled vineyard in Léognan under the meticulous stewardship of Olivier Bernard. The blanc is 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Sémillon, barrel fermented and aged in oak.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“Lovely Sémillon in the ascendant. Really nice, dry white Bordeaux with waxiness and interest without the searing acidity of the grand vin when young.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 - Blanc (Nov 2019)

“Sweet black-cherry fruit on the nose and quite marked acidity on the palate. A bit simple on the finish.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 15.5/20 - Rouge (Feb 2019)
