About this Item

Lalande de Pomerol 2014
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
The 2014 Lalande-de-Pomerol harvest produced wines of excellent freshness and mineral precision, with the clay and gravel soils of the appellation delivering a style of real tension and personality. Château Les Cruzelles’s 2014 earned 91/100 from Neal Martin, who found it very perfumed with violet and iris aromas and a pleasurable marine and oyster shell element on the finish, and 16.5/20 from Jancis Robinson MW, who noted its savoury, austere character. Les Cruzelles is the Lalande-de-Pomerol estate of the late Denis Durantou, who purchased it in 2000 and was celebrated primarily as the owner of Château L’Église-Clinet, one of Pomerol’s most coveted wines. Denis, who passed away in 2020, described Les Cruzelles as an extension of his terroir philosophy, its clay and gravel soils in the commune of Neac sitting barely a kilometre from L’Église-Clinet itself. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, aged in 50% new French oak.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“A little more ripeness on the nose compared to the La Chenade, very perfumed with subtle violet and iris aromas, later a hint of orange blossom. Medium-bodied with fine tannin, ample blackberry and bilberry, grainy in texture with a pleasurable marine and oyster shell element lending personality on the finish. Very fine.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Mar 2017)

“Very savoury and a tad dry and drying. More fruit please! Decidedly austere.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Mar 2018)
