About this Item

Pomerol 2010
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
The 2010 Pomerol harvest produced wines of exceptional concentration, balance and freshness, considered among the finest Right Bank vintages of the modern era. Château La Croix Taillefer’s 2010 was praised by James Suckling for its dark fruit, mineral character and impressive linear structure, comparing it in style to a Saint-Émilion of real intensity. Neal Martin found it very smooth on the entry with good acidity, purity and a savoury, powdery finish of good length, describing it as very fine. La Croix Taillefer is a small organic estate in the southern part of the Pomerol plateau, farmed with precision and dedication and producing wines of real refinement from a blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc from the appellation’s characteristic clay and gravel soils.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“Lots of dark fruits and mineral character with hints of wood. Enticing. Almost like a Saint-Émilion in structure with its intense, linear character. Organic.” - James Suckling, Wine Spectator (Apr 2011)

“A ripe nose of blackberry leaf, wild hedgerow, a touch of leather and earth. The palate is very smooth on the entry, good acidity and purity, well defined with savoury touches on the powdery finish. Good length. Very fine.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (May 2011)
