About this Item

Moulis 2010
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
The 2010 Left Bank harvest is broadly regarded as one of the finest vintages of the modern era, and Château Poujeaux’s 2010 earned 90/100 from Robert Parker, who called it the superstar of the Moulis appellation and described it as very close in quality to the brilliant 2009, with impressive concentration, texture and rich black raspberry and black currant fruit. Neal Martin awarded 91/100, finding it an impressive Poujeaux with a stern but finely composed bouquet and a vibrant, well-structured palate of red berry fruit and white pepper. Parker specifically noted the approximately 300,000 bottles produced at a fair price as exceptional value for the quality delivered. Poujeaux is one of the finest Cru Bourgeois estates on the Left Bank, acquired by the Cuvelier family in 2008 and transformed under the joint technical direction of Stéphane Derenoncourt and Nicolas Thienpont on its single unbroken vineyard block of Gunzian gravel slopes in Grand-Poujeaux. The 2010 blend is 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“Rich black raspberry and black currant fruit intermixed with graphite and floral notes. Opulent, fleshy and full-bodied with impressive concentration, texture and length. Very close in quality to the brilliant 2009, the superstar of the Moulis appellation.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Feb 2013)

“A stern, slightly aloof bouquet with blackberry leaf, melted tar and wild strawberry that unfurls nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, plenty of vibrant red berry fruit with hints of bay and white pepper towards the finish. An impressive Poujeaux.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Mar 2013)
