About this Item

Lalande-de-Pomerol 2014
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
La Chenade, a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, is a notable wine from the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation in Bordeaux, France.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

'Meat and two veg on the nose. Lots of life and freshness. Quite forward aromatically. Though admittedly there are still lots of tannins. Clean and minty - fresh as a mountain stream.' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Feb 2018)

'The 2014 La Chenade has a reserved but well defined bouquet with earthy red and black fruit, hints of truffle oil and sage, gaining a little intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm and quite strict tannin. This is rather aloof and distant and yet it is undeniably well defined and fascinating, a Pomerol that clearly needs some bottle age. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. Drink 2021 - 2035.' - Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100 (Mar 2018)

'The 2014 La Chenade, a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, has a straightforward but appealing bouquet with ample dark cherries, bergamot tea and a touch of dried flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with a tightly-knit structure. I appreciate the depth here, the focus and finesse, a wine that threatened to blossom in bottle... and it has. Given the market prices for this Lalande-de-Pomerol, Denis Durantou's 2014 comes highly recommended.' - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Mar 2017)
