About this Item

Saint-Émilion 2010
4 (1 x 4) 750ml
The 2010 Saint-Émilion harvest is broadly regarded as one of the finest of the modern era, delivering wines of remarkable structure, depth and longevity across the appellation. Clos des Jacobins’s 2010 earned 90/100 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, who praised it as one of the strongest efforts from this estate in many years, describing it as super-fruity, hedonistic and lush. Clos des Jacobins is one of Saint-Émilion’s most historically rooted estates, its name derived from the Benedictine monks who cultivated vines at the foot of the medieval town and offered wine and shelter to pilgrims. In 2001 the estate was acquired by Gérald Frydman, who engaged Hubert de Bouard of Château Angélus as consultant, making Clos des Jacobins his first Right Bank client. The Decoster family acquired it from Frydman in 2004 and have steadily elevated its ambition and precision further still. The blend is predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Franc, aged in French oak.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“One of the strongest efforts from this estate in many years. Sweet black raspberry, camphor and black currant along with forest floor and roasted herbs. Super-fruity, opaque ruby/purple, medium to full-bodied, hedonistic and lush.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Feb 2013)

“An attractive bouquet with fine definition: wild strawberry, macerated black cherries and an exotic touch of honey. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh citric acidity, nice balance and focus with a spicy, beetroot-tinged finish.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (May 2012)
