About this Item

Margaux 2009
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
The 2009 Margaux vintage produced wines of exceptional ripeness and aromatic generosity, delivering some of the finest expressions of the appellation in a generation. Château Marquis de Terme’s 2009, earned 17/20 from Jancis Robinson MW, who found it rich, opulent and showing real Margaux character with a light suggestion of stoniness and suitable freshness, noting its suitability for current drinking. Neal Martin awarded 91/100, finding a Burgundy-like purity of rose petals, bergamot and small dark cherries with a crisp, well-defined and fresh palate. Notably, 2009 was the first vintage produced under the direction of Ludovic David, who joined Marquis de Terme as General Manager in 2009 and launched a comprehensive revival of this Fourth Growth, owned by the Sénéclauze family since 1935. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“Some iodine on the nose. Quite rich and opulent on the palate with a light suggestion of stoniness. Still a whisper of tannin and suitable freshness, too. Medium length. It seems a good time to enjoy this.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Dec 2025)

“A Burgundy-like purity on the nose: perfumed scents of rose petals, bergamot and small dark cherries mingling with cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp, compact entry. Very tight and broody but fresh and well defined with a chewy peppery finish.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Jul 2013)
