About this Item
Chinese porcelain figure of Guandi, Ming dynasty, 1368–1644
Notes
The figure depicts Guandi, modelled with unglazed (biscuit) face, hands and feet. The robes are enamelled with dragon motifs in aubergine, yellow and green. These colours are consistent with known Ming dynasty decorative palettes. The use of biscuit areas was intended to create a flesh-like appearance. The differing historic descriptions reflect early attributions by respected dealers and collections.
