About this Item
A Chinese famille verte biscuit porcelain figure of Guanyin in Kangxi period, 1662-1722
Notes
A polychrome enamelled figure of Guanyin, seated and holding a child, wearing a patterned robe in yellow and aubergine enamels on a green ground. The decoration includes cranes, floral scrolls and auspicious emblems. The unglazed face and high headdress follow traditional iconography. In this form, Guanyin is associated with compassion, fertility and the protection of women and children, while the child symbolises blessings and lineage, and the crane motifs reference longevity.
Provenance
