About this Item
A Chinese blue and white porcelain rouleau-shaped vase decorated with a mountainous river landscape, Kangxi period, 1662-1722
height: 25cm; diameter: 10cm
Notes
The vase is of classic rouleau form, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a continuous mountainous river landscape. The scene depicts figures within a rocky, tree-lined landscape, with layered mountain peaks rising in the background. Such landscape scenes reflect the Chinese literati tradition, celebrating harmony between man and nature, and were popular decorative subjects on export and domestic porcelains.
