About this Item
A Chinese blue and white porcelain dish, Qianlong period, 1736-1795
Notes
Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a continuous landscape scene of figures, bridges, pavilions, trees and mountains. The decoration reflects the Chinese shanshui (mountain-and-water) tradition, emphasising harmony between man and nature. The oval form is typical of export porcelain made to suit European tastes. The fine stippled borders and layered composition show the technical refinement of Qianlong period blue and white wares.
