About this Item
Georgian style mahogany and inlaid display cabinet, 19th century
the broken arched pediment above two astragal-glazed doors enclosing two shelves, the base fitted with two drawers above a pair of cupboard doors inlaid with urn motifs, raised on square-section tapering legs
height: 209cm; width: 99cm; depth: 36cm
Notes
In the Georgian era, glass was expensive and only available in small panes. Astragal-glazed doors are doors fitted with glass panels that are divided into smaller panes by slender wooden mouldings called astragals. These were not structural, purely decorative, creating a refined architectural look.
