Christian Hook is a contemporary figurative and equine painter. His artistic practice bridges historical portraiture traditions with a vibrant, contemporary perspective, through a sophisticated interplay of colour and light and employing fractured imagery to create nuanced studies in time and motion.
After studying illustration at Middlesex University in London, Hook pursued a successful career as an illustrator while lecturing at prominent institutions, including the Royal College of Art. His career reached a major milestone in 2014 when he won the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year award that won him a portrait commission of actor Alan Cumming held in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. His portraits include sitters Dame Kristen Scott Thomas, Sir Richard Branson and Sir Ian McKellen.
