About the Session

Italy dominates the auction, led by a considerable depth of Tuscan greats. Fontodi spans the full range of the estate from the benchmark Chianti Classico through multiple vintages of Flaccianello della Pieve, their iconic Sangiovese IGT, to the crown jewel Vigna del Sorbo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. The jewel in the crown of Tuscan reds, Brunello di Montalcino is well represented with offerings from Il Poggione, Casanova di Neri, Silvio Nardi, and the rare Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta. A group of curated Italian Collections rounds out the Italian session, offering mixed selections ideal for those seeking range across multiple producers in a single lot.

About this Item

Chianti Classico Riserva 1977
1 (1 x 1) 750ml
Barone Ricasoli is among the oldest family wine estates in the world, with the Ricasoli family at Brolio castle in Gaiole in Chianti since at least the 12th century; it was Bettino Ricasoli, the second Prime Minister of unified Italy, who created the original formula for Chianti in the 1870s that defined the appellation for generations. Francesco Ricasoli, the 32nd Baron, now leads the estate. This 1977 Chianti Classico Riserva is an extraordinary piece of wine history, now approaching half a century of age.
