About this Item

Fronsac 2010
5 (1 x 5) 750ml
The 2010 Fronsac harvest produced wines of exceptional concentration and freshness, considered among the finest the appellation has delivered in its modern history. Château La Vieille Cure’s 2010 earned 91/100 from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, who called it a major sleeper of the vintage, praising its stunning density, pure texture, layered mouthfeel and impressive length, and 16.5/20 from Jancis Robinson MW, who found it muscular and sweet with a rare completeness, recommending it as good value. La Vieille Cure is one of the finest estates in Fronsac, acquired in 1986 by American co-owners Peter Sachs and Colin Ferenbach, who completely renovated the property, built a new winery, replanted the vineyards and brought in Michel Rolland as oenology consultant. The blend is 75% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon from 45 acres of hillside vineyards in Fronsac.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“Muscular and also sweet with a lovely completeness that is rare in Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. Slightly dry finish but a good wine. Should be good value.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Apr 2011)

“Dense ruby/purple, with loads of black currant and licorice-infused black raspberry fruit, stunning density, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and impressive purity, texture and length. A stunningly opulent, even voluptuous Fronsac and a major sleeper of the vintage.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Feb 2013)
