About this Item

Pauillac 2010
4 (1 x 4) 750ml
The 2010 Left Bank harvest is broadly regarded as one of the finest vintages of the modern era, producing wines of extraordinary structural integrity and depth across Pauillac. Château Grand-Puy Ducasse’s 2010 earned 92/100 from both Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Lisa Perrotti-Brown independently, Parker describing it as an elegant, seductively textured Pauillac of considerable flesh, fat and succulence that will reward cellaring for 15 or more years. Grand-Puy Ducasse is one of Pauillac’s most distinctive classified estates, its château standing on the quayside of the town while its vineyards are dispersed across three separate blocks neighbouring Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild and Pichon Baron, under the ownership of CA Grands Crus since 2004. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, aged in 50% new French oak.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David studied and tasted Bordeaux more than any other region and he purchased en-primeur, or pre-release, for more than 3 decades. He bought the great vintages, loved magnums, and enjoyed the sweet wines of Sauternes. The cellar contains the famous names, but also highly regarded but lesser-known Chateaux and appellations.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@winecellar.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“An up-front, seductively styled Pauillac. Deep purple with exceptionally subtle texture and oodles of cassis fruit as well as hints of mocha and white chocolate. Elegant, with considerable flesh, fat and succulence. Will be hard to resist now, but can be cellared for another 15 or more years.” - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Feb 2013)

“Deep garnet with notes of blackcurrant pastilles, prunes and fruitcake with wafts of espresso and oolong tea. Medium to full-bodied with very good fruit concentration, a firm, grainy texture and seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy.” - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Mar 2020)
